Make your own agua de flores

Updated: Apr 5, 2019

This recipe is jam-packed with purifying flowers, herbs and spices. A recipe to invite the energies of love and transformation.

Agua de flores, more commonly known as Florida Water, is often used ceremonially to cleanse, rebalance and ground. The traditional scent is a blend of strong citrus with floral undertones and an earthy base and the primary ingredients include water, alcohol and essential oils.

You can use your aqua de flores as a way to transmute the dense energy that comes from every day stress and stagnation. In this way, we clear a channel for the magick and inspiration available to us in all moments back into our lives. Bottle your agua de flores into a spray bottle (amber works best as to protect the delicate essential oils from UV light) and use as a general body spray. Alternatively, source a small amber roll on bottle and dab on your wrists during times of stress (in this case, mix with jojoba, fractioned coconut oil, or another carrier oil for longevity of scent on skin).

Below is a recipe I threw together with available herbs. I suggest you feel things out intuitively and tailor-make to suit your own needs and preferences.

Ingredients - all ingredients are organic and pesticide free

2x cups vodka

2x cups spring or filtered water

1 x cup dried rosemary leaves stripped from stem

1 x cinnamon stick

2 x tea spoons cloves

2 x handfuls of rose petals

Lemon essential oil (begin with 1-2 drops and let your nose be your guide – be careful! Too many drops may overpower the other aromas)

Patchouli essential oil (as above)

Instructions

In a saucepan add rosemary, cinnamon and cloves to the vodka and heat on low for forty minutes or so, stirring occasionally until the plant aroma infuses and overpowers the alcohol aroma. Remove from heat and cool completely.

In another saucepan add two handfuls of rose petals to spring or purified water. Cover and bring to boil. Once boiling reduce to simmer until the petals lose their colour and infuse into the water. Leave covered and allow to cool completely.

Once both mixtures have cooled, mix together and add in essential oils until you reach desired scent.

Spiritual Meaning of chosen flowers, herbs & spices

Rosemary

Rosemary is an aromatic evergreen used for both culinary and medicinal purposes. Rosemary attracts positive energy and is long associated with immortality, memory, and fidelity. Clove is an evergreen native to the Maluka, aka ‘Spice Islands’ within Indonesia. From an energetic perspective, clove is considered protective that wards off negativity, stops harmful gossip and keeps good friends. Clove is rejuvenating physically and mentally, fostering courage and inner strength. Clove can also be used to attract love.

Rose

Aromatically, roses are mood enhancers that decrease tension and depression. Rose supports the heart-chakra and invites us to be more loving, tender and open.

Lemon essential oil is uplifting and helps clear negative emotion to invite a cheerful mood. Lemon oil enhances focus and concentration making it easier to make decisions and problem solve. Lemon essential oil balances the solar plexus chakra.

Patchouli Essential Oil

This ingredient brings the aqua de flores together and acts as a balancer. Patchouli soothes the nerves and relieves mental exhaustion and emotional stress. Patchouli balances the mind, body and spirit by quietening, grounding and centering.

PS. This scent is a powerful aphrodisiac!
